Discovering deep and mysterious dive sites is incredibly exciting. Sometimes it’s a wreck that lies below 30 meters / 130 feet and other times it’s a great opportunity to see unique sharks. Whatever it is, to safely dive below 30 meters / 130 feet, the PADI Deep Diver course will help you prepare for it. You will learn how to plan and execute deep dives and how greater depth affects your body, air consumption, colors and objects. Thanks to this course, you will increase your confidence underwater and consolidate your previous knowledge about planning a dive in the context of no-decompression limits.

What Will You Learn During the PADI Deep Diver Course?

The training consists of two parts: theoretical and practical.

Theoretical part

Contains sections covering the following topics:

  • What is deep diving and why dive deep – what is the definition of deep diving, what’s the reasons to dive beyond 30 meters / 130 feet.

  • Diving equipment – how to prepare your equipment for deep diving, additional equipment that is useful or needed during deep diving, using a dive computer

  • Deep diving techniques – buddy contact, neutral buoyancy, descent, ascent, behaviour at depth, avoiding out of air situations, safety stops, drift diving and wall diving

  • Nitrogen narcosis – symptoms of nitrogen narcosis, factors contributing to nitrogen narcosis, how to protect yourself from nitrogen narcosis and how to combat its symptoms once they occur

  • Decompression sickness (DCS) – causes of decompression sickness, symptoms of decompression sickness, factors predisposing to decompression sickness, how to protect yourself from decompression sickness and how to care for a diver who experiences symptoms

All the above topics can be studied using PADI eLearning platform. It takes around 4 to 6 hours to go through all the material.

Practical part

The practical part consists of four training dives. In addition, standard procedures such as: descent, ascent at a speed not exceeding the permitted speed, safety stop, contact between partners, additional skills necessary for deep diving are practiced.

  • Dive 1
This is practically identical to the deep dive in the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. The skills practiced during this dive includes: checking the effect of the depth on the perception of colors underwater, comparing the readings of the student’s and instructor’s depth gauges.

  • Dive 2
During this dive you’ll learn how pressure affects various objects and you will have an opportunity to practice underwater navigation at greater depths.

  • Dive 3
Experience effects of nitrogen narcosis in the ability to perform tasks underwater compared to the time required to perform a similar task on the surface. Simulation of emergency decompression, including breathing from an emergency air source.

  • Dive 4
Planning a dive combined with an underwater excursion at great depth (not exceeding 40 meters / 130 feet).
